Is the word counter accurate?

Yes. Words are counted as runs of non-whitespace characters, matching the convention used by Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

Does it count characters with and without spaces?

Both. You get the full character count (including spaces) and the no-spaces count side by side.

How is reading time calculated?

We divide the word count by 200 words per minute — the average silent reading speed for adults — then format the result.

Are sentences counted correctly for abbreviations?

The tool counts terminal punctuation (. ! ?) followed by whitespace or end-of-text. Abbreviations like “e.g.” may slightly inflate the count in edge cases.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Counting happens entirely in your browser. Open DevTools → Network to confirm zero outbound requests.
