What does “split at page X” do?

It produces two PDFs: one with pages 1 through X−1 and another with pages X through the end. Useful for separating a cover from the body.

How are the output files named?

Individual-page files use the original name plus _page-NN; chunked files use _part-N. Names are short and safe for all operating systems.
