Which format should I use?

CODE128 accepts any text and is great for shipping and internal use. EAN-13 is the standard retail barcode outside North America. UPC-A is the retail standard in the US/Canada. CODE39 is the legacy industrial format.

Why does my EAN-13 barcode show as invalid?

EAN-13 requires exactly 12 digits (the 13th check digit is computed automatically) or 13 valid digits. Letters and special characters are not allowed. The same applies to UPC-A (11 or 12 digits).

Is the check digit calculated automatically?

For EAN-13 and UPC, JsBarcode validates and can append the check digit. If your value's check digit is wrong, the code is marked invalid — recheck the digits.

What's the best size for printing?

Use bar width 2–3 and height 60–100 px for a 1D retail barcode. For higher-density print, scale the PNG up in your design tool; avoid scaling below the original size as thin bars may merge.

Are these barcodes scannable by any scanner?

Yes. The codes use the standard symbology and scan with any modern laser or camera-based barcode scanner. Test with a free scanner app before printing at scale.

Can I generate barcodes in bulk?
