What's the difference between APR and APY?

APR is the simple annual rate without compounding. APY is the effective annual yield after compounding. A 12% APR compounded monthly yields about 12.68% APY — that extra 0.68% comes purely from compounding.

Which compounding frequency should I use?

Match the protocol's actual frequency. Most DeFi lending platforms compound per-block (effectively continuous or every few seconds). Traditional banks usually compound daily or monthly. Staking often compounds daily.

Why does my DeFi protocol show a different APY than this tool?

Some protocols quote APR (no compounding), some quote APY (compounded), and some use different rates or reward tokens. Always check the protocol's docs for the exact rate basis and frequency.

Is there a maximum rate I can enter?
